Calistoga, California, is where Nadalie USA first introduced the old, traditional French style of barrel making in the USA. In the ensuing years, that style has evolved to result in the finest American oak barrels available. The Napa Valley location is convenient to West Coast winemakers who wish to visit the cooperage and see their barrels being hand-crafted.
During a three-year period - 1996 through 1998 - American oak trials were conducted at wineries in California, Oregon and Washington. These trials were staged to cultivate an awareness of various wood source regions of the United States. The trials, enacted as "The American Oak Terroir Trials" revealed differences and similarities among barrels manufactured with wood from Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Missouri, and Virginia. These results have been compiled in a document entitled
Effects of American Oak Barrels from Various Regional Sources on the Sensory Attributes of Wines.
The Nadalié USA cooperage is located among many of the most important wine-growing regions of California, and is thus easily accessible for visiting by customers and others interested in the art of oak wine barrel making.
